Clinical genetics is a little-known specialty, concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of genetic disorders. Expert geneticist Dr Melita Irving explains what kind of patients she is able to see, and who she is able to help.
Dr Irving sees patients of all ages, but principally she sees children who present with different problems. For example, they may not be growing properly, or have difficulty talking or doing certain movements. I will reach a genetic diagnosis by performing the relevant tests.
Tests may include a chromosome test, a single gene test, or more thorough genetic testing.
