Now that the hardscaping for the front garden is finished, it’s time for the best bit - the planting!!
As I mentioned in my previous video, Richard had suddenly taken quite the interest in this space and in particular what style of planting he’d like to see.
His Brief was he didn’t want anything with flowers, but he wanted contemporary, low maintenance, evergreen borders.
We went plant shopping together, I think for the first time ever, and it was very interesting to mingle our styles and design choices together. We certainly ended up with a mixture that I probably wouldn’t have chosen if I had been by myself.
We chose evergreen plants which are hardy enough to withstand any future cold temperatures. We also made sure we chose evergreens which fell into the 4 categories of foliage colour - green, blue, red and yellow - to create extra interest - and we mixed that with different textures of leaves and differences in heights.
We are both so delighted with the outcome and these are the plants we chose:
Lemon Cypress
Pinus ‘Summer Breeze’
Fatsia Japonica ‘Spider’s Web’
Carex Morrowii ‘Ice Dance’
Ilex Crenata ‘Caroline Upright’
Heuchera
Festica ‘Intense Blue’
and we bought 3 of each and repeat-planted them throughout the borders.
The two borders either side of the front door face East, so they receive morning sun, while the border which carries on around the corner towards the garage doors faces South, so will receive midday sun.
I hope you enjoy this video!
