With millions of unique visitors and Amazon Prime subscribers, Amazon dominates the future of online shopping as it ships over 18.5 items each second, 66,000 orders per hour, and around 1.6 million shipments daily. These figures raise the question of how the Amazon delivery system manages to deliver things so quickly and with such precision. It's all due to the Amazon supply chain that it developed over the years.
Other competitors find it nearly impossible to compete with Amazon in terms of package delivery services due to the way it manages logistics. No other ecommerce business comes close to the way how amazon's super-complex shipping system works, as no one is able to replicate Amazon's extremely sophisticated shipping system.
In order to understand how Amazon shipping works, you must first enter the logistical network that the company has built up over the past 28 years. On July 5, 1994, in Bellevue, Washington, the United States, their story began. Amazon began with a few small storage spaces and has grown to owning more than 166 million square feet of storage space with each passing year. The 3.6 million square foot MQY1 Fulfillment Centre in Tennessee is one of the biggest Amazon warehouses.
When you learn how the Amazon delivery system works, this will startle you. In the US, third parties are used to complete about one-fourth of all deliveries. Therefore, one out of every four packages shipped by the Amazon shipping team is handled by one of UPS, FedEx, or DHL.
To support amazon logistics team, it has even got its own air fleet which comprises over 70 aircrafts. Amazon also made investments in robotics, to support its delivery team both inside and outside of warehouses. In fact, very soon, the first Prime Air drone deliveries in the US will be made to Amazon customers in Lockeford, California.
So, if you're thinking of a dream to create a logistics app similar to how Amazon's delivery system works, you too must make investments in technology just like the Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
