Germany's inflation rate rose at its fastest pace since before reunification as the Ukraine Crisis sparked a rise in energy prices, specially for oil and gas.
Consumer prices are now 7.4% higher than in the same month last year.
And it hurts not only the households.
Authorities on Wednesday joined consumer groups in calling for a temporary scrapping of VAT on fruit, vegetables and pulses to ease the cost-of-living crisis for the poorest households.
A local food charity in NW Germany's Grevenbroich has noticed an increase in its customers who are able to have access to cheap food and other good.
German economy ministry slashed Wednesday its economic growth forecast for 2022 to 2.2% from its late January prediction of 3.6%.
And the country is speeding up to cut off its reliance on all Russian fossil fuel imports.
A new round of price hiking for basics is foreseeable as Putin has long warned NATO allies Germany included, the consequences of "brutal" sanctions against Russia.
