Part 1: [ Ссылка ]
Part 2 of my maiden Mumbai-Pune trip is here. This was the best part and I didn't want to delay the upload any longer as Part 1 was already online. This continues exactly where Part 1 left off - Palasdhari.
We climb the amazingly beautiful Bhor Ghats in this video. This is one of the most challenging engineering feats even by today's standards; taking three railway lines with many distance and gradient constraints up the unforgiving Western Ghats is not an easy task. The section has 1:37 and 1:40 gradients and that makes it the steepest Ghat gradient over Broad Gauge tracks in India, along with its partner Thul Ghat, and South Western Railway's Braganza Ghat. Over 20,000 people lost their lives during construction and that should be enough to tell you what a herculean task this was.
Now it connects Mumbai and Pune so seamlessly that it has become part of daily life. I was travelling on the Udyan Express led by WCAM3 21895, with two more WCAM3s bringing up the rear.
