BPD Pain of the Borderline | A.J. Mahari Live Stream Clips
In a live stream I was asked to describe the core pain of Borderline Personality Disorder - why so many with BPD don't or won't get help. The core pain in BPD is primal. It has been caused by arrested emotional development by the age of two and prior to the separation-individuation stage of early childhood development.

In my explanation of something I am often, and understandably asked, let me be clear, my explanation, in no way, is meant whatsoever, to excuse poor behaviour and beyond at all.
This abandonment and/or attachment trauma causes this primal wound that caused the arrested emotional development and the "psychological death of the otherwise burgeoning authentic self" as Object Relations Theory pioneer Melanie Klein described. This ego fragmentation and psychological death experience leaves people with BPD with "the anxiety of the death instinct" also described by Melanie Klein. They are triggered to dysregulated emotions and in a very dissociative way re-experience, in repetition compulsions, this subconscious primal association of this pain as if it is going to kill them. It is what mounts such maladaptive defense mechanisms and behavior.
