The upbound ALGOMA COMPASS (formerly ADAM E. CORNELIUS) is seen departing Lock 7, while in the distance the downbound BAIE COMEAU is waiting to enter Lock 7, Oct.19, 2018.(Note, I have a typo on the video: the correct date should read Oct.19 - not Oct. 20)
ALGOMA COMPASS was built in 1973 in Toledo, originally named ROGER M. KYES; her name was changed to Adam E. Cornelius in 1989. (At 00:50 and at 02:42 the ghost lettering of the previous name Adam E. Cornelius can be seen on the hull).
The previous owner of the Cornelius was the American Steamship Company, which in Dec.2017 had sold a package of 4 ships to Algoma Central: the American Victory {former Middletown}, American Valor, Buffalo, and Adam E. Cornelius.
In 2018, the new owner Algoma renamed Cornelius as the ALGOMA COMPASS.
The BUFFALO was renamed ALGOMA BUFFALO.
Algoma sent the AMERICAN VICTORY to be scrapped in Turkey in the summer of 2018; while AMERICAN VALOR continued to sit idle in Toledo.
(In Oct.2019, Algoma sold American Valor to Lower Lakes Towing, who apparently claimed that they will restore her back into service in 2021. But, as of mid-2021, she was still sitting idle in Toledo, having been laid up now since 2008.)
