Zoos have been around for hundreds of years. In the past, the displaying of wild and exotic animals often came about after the conquest of other lands. Specimens of new species discovered in these new and distant lands were transported to be shown to the conquering leaders, and some times the general public. Some zoos are very old indeed... here are five of the oldest.
