Our nursery in Newton grows almost 2 million Scots pine a year. Some of these saplings are used for native woodland restoration while the rest is planted for timber.
To gather seeds for growing, we need to make sure we get the cones before they open or drop to the ground and lose their seeds. This means getting up into the trees.

About Forestry and Land Scotland
We’re a Scottish Government agency with the important job of looking after something incredibly valuable to the people of Scotland and its visitors – Scotland’s national forests and land. Many people think our work is timber production. That’s true – but it's only part of the story. We also develop renewable energy schemes, create and maintain trails and visitor facilities and conserve habitats, wildlife and archaeological treasures.
