This video lesson uses the example of a graphics processing unit (GPU) board that heats up when you are playing a computationally intensive video game. Because the GPU board comprises three different materials (aluminum alloy, polyethylene and silicon) at different temperatures and is fixed in place, the board develops thermal strain, elastic strain and thermal stress.
