The Changi Chapel and Museum welcomed a delegation from the New Zealand High Commission, Singapore on Wednesday, 14 July.
Our guests included Her Excellency Jo Tyndall, New Zealand High Commissioner to Singapore, as well as Defence Adviser Colonel Grant Motley and his wife, Ms Jennifer Curtis.
They were received by Ms Chung May Khuen, Director of the National Museum of Singapore. The delegation was taken on a guided tour of the premises by Mr Iskander Mydin, Curatorial Fellow at the National Museum of Singapore.
They viewed a handmade mug made from a used food tin, which belonged to Ian Douglas Newlands, a captain who served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
"The concept for this museum is particularly special for me as my great uncle was taken as a prisoner of war here... I congratulate Singapore for not only creating the Changi Chapel and Museum, but upgrading it to ensure the histories it records are never forgotten," said Her Excellency Jo Tyndall.
