The Kawasaki Ninja e-1 ABS is a new electric motorcycle that will be available for sale in the US. It has a 5.0kW electric motor and two removable lithium-ion batteries.
The motor is tuned for strong low-end punch and a quick throttle response. It has two power modes, Road and Eco, with top speeds of 52 mph and 37 mph, respectively. There is also an e-boost function that gives a bit more power for better acceleration and a higher top speed, but only for 15 seconds. With e-boost on, top speed is 65 mph in Road mode and 45 mph in Eco.
The batteries weigh 11.5 kg each and can be charged either on the bike or offboard. Charging time per battery is approximately 3.7 hours for a full charge and 1.6 hours for a partial charge.
The cockpit has a 4.3-inch all-digital TFT color screen that displays the usual data, as well as e-boost gauge, battery temperature and charge levels, clock, connected devices, speedometer, odometer, tripmeters, electric consumption, cruising range, and more.
There is also a built-in storage compartment located where the fuel tank would normally be. The frame, forks, and disc brakes are all based off of Kawasaki's 400cc motorcycle and are designed to make riders feel at home on an electric motorcycle. The MSRP is $7,599.
