With the steady pedal and the ostinato left hand as a warm base line, the flute 4’ and the Oboe 8’ do have an amusing conversation in this piece. They have fun with each other until the last note! I learned and recorded this little gem yesterday evening after a day long Workshop that I organised for house doctors, psychologists, social workers and spiritual counsellors from within my organisation (my day job is at the Dutch government) about autism and behaviour in a rapidly changing society. After playing this piece my brain was at ease and relaxed again. The power of music!
This piece is, like all pieces in this collection, not only pretty to listen to, it’s also a nice practise piece. However it’s short and sounds simple, It has some interesting features. First of all has the accompaniment has to be played legato, while the Flute solo (voice 1) has to be played staccato and the alternating oboe solo (voice 2) legato. Next to that, there are carefully and strategic placed rests in all voices, including the accompaniment. Last point, the piece has to be played in. uplifting style but not to quick (Allegretto).
I hope you like this one!
Played with the Aristide Cavaillé-Coll Organ of the St. Etienne Abbey in Caen (Hauptwerk)
