Jalagam Prasad Rao likely to join TRS Party | Telangana Elections 2018 | KCR | YOYO TV Channel
In an apparent setback to the efforts by a section of senior Congress leaders to bring former Minister Jalagam Prasad Rao back into the party fold ahead of the December 7 Assembly polls, Mr. Rao is likely to join the ruling TRS if his reported meeting with Minister for Information Technology K T Rama Rao in Hyderabad on Wednesday, is any indication.Political circles in the district were agog with speculations that the senior politician was about to return to active politics after a long gap. He virtually disassociated himself from active politics ever since he was expelled from the Congress party more than one-and-a-half decade ago.A section of Congress leaders in the State have tried to bring him back into the party in an effort to revitalise the party in the district in the run-up to the Assembly elections. However, some senior party leaders hailing from the district reportedly opposed any move to give him the party ticket immediately.In this backdrop, the TRS top leaders are understood to have held discussions with Mr Rao and welcomed him into their party on Wednesday.
Mr Rao, the elder son of former Chief Minister Jalagam Vengal Rao, wields significant clout among masses in Sattupalli constituency, which he had represented for long in the past. Mr Rao’s younger brother Jalagam Venkat Rao is already in the ruling TRS and seeking re-election from the Kothagudem constituency in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district.Meanwhile, Mr Prasad Rao held a meeting with his followers at Kuppenakuntla in his native Penuballi mandal on Thursday giving rise to speculations that he is expected to join the TRS soon. In a related development, the TRS candidate for Sattupalli constituency Pidamarthi Ravi met Mr Prasad Rao at Bayyannagudem late in the afternoon.In a brief chat with newsmen, Mr Prasad Rao said he had expressed his concern about the Congress party forging the Grand Alliance with its arch rival TDP to the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy.“But he has attributed the decision to the party high command and said several senior leaders including Renuka Chowdhary were opposed to giving ticket to me,” Mr Rao said, terming the Congress party’s decision to join hands with the TDP as part of electoral alliance with the CPI and the TJS as “most unfortunate.”There are 14 candidates in the Congress party aspiring for the Chief Minister post in sharp contrast to only one candidate in the TRS, he remarked, saying he would take the call on joining the TRS after eliciting the views of his supporter.
