Police and national guard members have gone door-to-door in Buffalo, New York, to check on residents who lost power during a winter storm earlier this week that killed nearly three dozen residents of the region.

The deadly Christmas blizzard dropped about 55 inches (140 cm) of snow on New York's second-largest city.
The Buffalo mayor, Byron Brown, said a driving ban was still in effect in the city, but that roads were being cleared and power restored as temperatures were warming.
