In this editorial episode, Mr. Sujit Nair discusses the upcoming special session of Parliament and the agenda that was released today for this session. The government has scheduled a special discussion on Parliament's 75-year journey, starting from the Samvidhan Sabha, as the first item on the agenda for the five-day session of Parliament, commencing on September 18. Additionally, the government has included a bill related to the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and other election commissioners for consideration and passage. This bill was initially introduced in the Rajya Sabha during the previous Monsoon session. Alongside these matters, there will be other formal business, such as the presentation of papers.It is expected that during this session, the proceedings of Parliament will transition from the old building to the new Parliament building.In the Lok Sabha, other listed business items include the 'Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023' and the 'Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023,' both of which were already passed by the Rajya Sabha on August 3, 2023. Additionally, the 'Post Office Bill, 2023' has also been included in the Lok Sabha's agenda. This bill was initially introduced in the Rajya Sabha on August 10, 2023.It's worth noting that the list of business is tentative, and more items may be added as needed.Furthermore, the government has called for a meeting of floor leaders from all political parties on September 17, a day before the start of the five-day session. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi announced this, stating that invitations for the meeting have been sent to all concerned leaders via email and social media platform X.
