HEBRON, Ky. (WKRC) -- Customs inspectors and ICE agents seized $1.5 million in counterfeit NFL merchandise at the DHL air cargo facility over the past week. The bust was part of Operation Team Player. The government and the NFL announced agents had confiscated a total of $21.6 million in fake jerseys, caps, t-shirts and souvenirs in the time leading up to Sunday's Super Bowl. Working with our officers, agents and import specialists, CBP prevented the influx of over 33,000 counterfeit NFL items worth $1.5 million, from entering our country, said Augustine Moore, acting director of field operations in Chicago in a press release. Its this level of teamwork and commitment that ensures the American consumer is getting the genuine products they are paying for.Operation Team Player was announced back in June. Investigators targeted international shipments of counterfeit merchandise as it entered the country. They also identified warehouses, stores, flea markets, online sellers and street venders selling fake game-related items and tickets.
