Weeks after banning the export of essential medicines, India has said it will allow some exports of the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine. The drug is being used to treat coronavirus patients in many western countries, including the US. India's decision comes hours after US President Donald Trump issued a warning to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India is the largest manufacturer of hydroxychloroquine. Experts said India has the capacity to produce enough for export and domestic consumption. However, they are urging the US to return the favour and help India procure critical medical supplies like testing kits, ventilators and protective equipment.
