Okay. What do you do with those patients who have pain over the eye? You might be thinking needling frontalis, working on that area. Of course, that's great for someone with headaches, but what else can we do? Sternocleidomastoid is often the culprit that can refer into exactly the same area. Not just for this type of pain, but for neck pain, headaches, neck stiffness and so on.
Very accessible here and very straightforward to needle, and gets some great results for anyone, not just with the referral over the eye, but of course ...getting some nice twitches there ... but obviously for anyone with headaches as well.
Okay. So what else can we do as a follow-up manual therapy technique? Well, given that the origin and insertion, so the clavicle, mastoid process, clavicular and sternal, hands just in here, open out the arm for me, into external rotation to put that on pre-load, and we're stretching either end of that muscle. Really effective, to stretch out that SCM once you've done some needling.
Hope that helps.
