Turkish airstrikes have hit dozens of suspected Kurdish militant sites in Syria and Iraq after a combined bomb and gun attack on the headquarters of one of Turkey’s most important arms companies killed at least five people and injured 22.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack on the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) compound but Yasar Guler, the defence minister, immediately blamed the PKK, the Kurdish guerrilla group that has been fighting the Turkish state for more than four decades.
The National Intelligence Organisation responded on Thursday morning with strikes on “strategic locations” used by the PKK or by Syrian Kurdish militia affiliated with the militants.
