El Centro de Medellin is very busy on the weekend. Many come to the center of Medellin to to some shopping and enjoying life.
I did a walk on Plaza Botero on Sunday afternoon. You see al lot of local tourists there as well. Many Colombian travel to Medellin Antoquia as well to discover the city.

The center of Medellin is also known as La Candelaria.
Colombians just call it "El Centro". It has a rough reputation but also have hidden gems a must when visiting the city.
EL Centro de Meddelin
The Centro is Medellin’s economic and business heartbeat. Small shopping malls and skyscrapers are around the center.
The area around Parque Bolivar was the cultural center of the city. Nowadays its a little down and the street markets around the center a bit grungy and dirty.
El Centro is easily accessible by metro and buses from all parts of the city. If you are a tourist and stay in Popolado you can easy take the Metro
The metro stop at El centro is Parque Berrio which is Plaza Botero, where you can see the impressive Fernando Botero statues.
On one side of the park is the Catedral Metropolitana. Opposite side from the cathedral begins the Calle Junin, which was the historically the retail center of Medellin.
There are several bars and nightlife in the area, particularly located on streets La Playa and Maracaibo, but I don't recommend going there at night. If you go take a taxi.
