Recitative and aria "Ombra mai fù" from opera "Serse" ("Xerxes", HWV 40) is probably George Frideric Handel's most famous opera aria. Here is performed by mezzo-soprano Dragana Popović and New Trinity Baroque, directed from the harpsichord by Predrag Gosta. This is a live performance, from the concert presented in January of 2017 at the Synagogue in Novi Sad, Serbia.
LYRICS:
Frondi tenere e belle
Del mio platano amato,
Per voi risplenda il fato
Tuoni, lampi, e procelle
Non vi traggino a mai la cara pace,
Ne giunga a profanarvi austro rapace.
Ombra mai fù
di vegetabile,
cara ed amabile,
soave più.
ENGLISH TRANSLATION:
Tender and beautiful fronds
of my beloved plane tree,
Let fate smile upon you.
May thunder, lightning, and storms
never bother your dear peace,
Nor may you by blowing winds be profaned.
A shade there never was,
of any plant,
dearer and more lovely,
or more sweet.

Founded in London in 1998, and having its base in Atlanta (USA) for many years, the ensemble has been following its founder Predrag Gosta and frequently collaborates with various international soloists from the UK, Italy, Germany, Croatia, Switzerland, Sweden, etc. The group performs on period instruments or historical replicas of the instruments from the 17th and 18th centuries. Its repertoire ranges from chamber to orchestral, from oratorios and operas, and its styles from Renaissance to Classical. Notable performances from the past include Monteverdi’s “Vespers”, J.S. Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio”, Pergolesi’s “La Serva Padrona”, Buxtehude’s “Membra Jesu Nostri”, Caldara's "Maddalena ai piedi di Cristo" and more. As an active recording ensemble, NTB published 10 CDs - the latest one featuring Buxtehude’s cantatas “Membra Jesu Nostri”.
