Discover Lesotho. Lesotho is a small landlocked country in southern Africa. Lesotho, a charming land of lofty mountains and tiny valleys, owes its long history of political autonomy to the mountains that surround it and protect it from intrusion. It is a little enclave completely encircled by the country of South Africa. The government structure is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy, with the king as chief of state and the prime minister and serves as head of government. Lesotho has a market economy.

A country that is a 'twin'. For starts, the kingdom is a participant in the "Dolen Cymru" international experiment, also known as the "Wales Lesotho Link." Wales and Lesotho formed the world's first nation-to-nation twinning in March 1985. The twinning's goal was to foster friendship and understanding between Lesotho and Welsh people. This odd relationship arose from the 1984 Ethiopian famine, which inspired people in Wales to desire to do more than merely give relief to those in need in Africa. Lesotho was chosen because of its size, scenery, language, and cultural legacy, which are all like Wales.
There is a solid reason for the area's restricted road network. Lesotho is a mountainous country. In fact, it has the distinction of possessing the world's "highest lowest point." No other country has a base altitude as high as Lesotho's, which is the highest in the world at 4,593 feet.
Lesotho is the world's 137th largest country, even though its land area of 11,720 square miles is only slightly smaller than Belgium's total land area of 11,787 square miles, and only slightly larger than both Albania and Macedonia, both of which have land areas of 11,100 square miles and 9928 square miles, respectively.
