Meredith is a township in Victoria Australia, located on the Midland Highway between Ballarat and Geelong. It is an hour and twenty minute drive from the Central Business District (CBD) of Melbourne to its east.
This video will contain drone footage of the township, historical building, fields and photographs from toady and historical achieves held with the State Library - Victoria.
At the 2016 census, Meredith had a population of 788, however I would surmise it is well over 800 today.
The town was surveyed in 1851–52. The naming of the town thought to be in honor of Captain Charles Meredith.
Meredith Post Office opened on 1 November 1854 and the railway came to the town with the opening of the Geelong-Ballarat line in 1862, with the local railway station opened soon after. Now only grain and freight trains use the line. From my understand the Railway Station has been just recently used as a private family dwelling and could be now available for the same for lease or sale (check with the Shire or realtors).
Meredith, has a State School (primary), Police Station, Fire Department (CFA), Golf Course, Pub, Hotels, Cafes and hosts the Meredith Music Festival.
"Darra" Estate, a house and stone cottage at 490 Slate Quarry Road, is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.
