Making the Elm seat for the Glasgow Chair.
In this film I am making the seat for the Glasgow Chair. I have a very nice slab of English Elm with a lovely grain pattern, It a well seasoned piece of wood, and is very hard to work. I use a template to mark out the outline of the seat and then I use a long handled adze to start hollowing out the seat, From there I use a smaller adze, scorp, travishers and a pullshave. Its a good opportunity to try out some of the tools that I have made in my forge.
Finally I drill out the hole in the seat for the legs and spindles using guidelines and an angle gauge.
I hope you find the film informative and enjoyable.
