The error may occur due to the following reasons: The service associated with Credential Manager does not start. Some files associated with the application have gone corrupt. The error message Invalid credentials is shown when one of your platforms has trouble connecting due to the provided credentials being incorrect.
Check Credential Manager Service status:
1. Press Windows key + R to invoke the Run dialog.
2. In the Run dialog box, type services.msc and hit Enter to open Services.
3. In the Services window, scroll and locate the Credential Manager service.
4. Double-click on the entry to edit its properties.
5. Windows default Startup type is Manual, so ensure that it is not Disabled.
6. Also, click on the Start button if the Service is not started. Click Apply / OK to save changes.
Reset security permissions on Vault folder:
1. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft. (NOTE: ProgramData is a hidden system folder, enter the path in the windows explorer address bar to navigate there.)
2. Right click on the vault folder / Properties / Security / Advanced / click Change Permissions / Click Enable inheritance / Click apply. NOTE: Keep the Microsoft folder open.
3. You should still be in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft folder. Open the vault folder, and right click on AC658CB4-9126-49BD-B877-31EEDAB3F204.
4. Go to Properties / Security Advanced. Change the owner to the admin user you are logged in as, select Replace owner on sub-container and objects click apply (DON’T click ok, as we will be changing it back right away.) change ownership back to the local administrator group, select Replace owner on sub-container and objects and click OK.
