SIX ILLEGAL PETS IN NEVADA
Six popular animals that are illegal to own as pets in Nevada are:
1) Foxes. Nevada law prohibits private ownership of all species of fox, including the Fennec fox despite being smaller than most guinea pigs.
2) Skunks. Even domesticated skunks – which have had their scent glands remove – are illegal to own as pets in Nevada.
3) Raccoons. They have a propensity to bite and may carry rabies and zoonotic parasites.
4) Wild, captured wolves. However, some localities permit possession of wolves or wolf-hybrids in Nevada if they were bred in captivity and lawfully acquired.
5) Bats. Like raccoons, they are a common source of rabies. And
6) Desert tortoises. However, it is legal to keep a desert tortoise if it was in captivity before August 1990, or if it is the offspring of such a tortoise.
Depending on the circumstances, people caught with illegal pets could face animal cruelty allegations.
