Perhaps Japan's decision to modify its Izumo-class helicopter carriers to operate the F-35B has rekindled debate over the warfighting capability of the Royal Australian Navy.
Under Project AIR 6000 Phase 7, the F-35A was the primary fighter jet option under consideration, bringing the fleet up to 100 aircraft. There might be a good reason to consider alternatives rather than rush to embrace an all F-35A capability.
