Beverly Hills 90210, No! Potomac 20854, That’s where we are!
Onsite with Matt Cheney EP19: Potomac
Hello and welcome to Onsite with Matt Cheney, a collection of short videos following me throughout metropolitan Washington to the neighborhoods I serve as a realtor.
The area we call The Village today had been a country crossroads and was re-named Potomac in 1881. Obviously its named after the famous Potomac River located just down the hill where you can also find the C&O Canal and Great Falls national parks.
To some it is the Beverly Hills of Maryland but to others it is a retreat outside of the Nation’s Capital with large homes and expansive lawns.
During the 1920s and 1930s a number of estates were constructed such as the Italianate styled Marwood. Today many of Washington’s professional sport team’s owners enjoy these properties or newer inspirations of them.
Potomac has great access into Northern Virginia, Bethesda, and one of the best collections of golf courses and country clubs in America.
Now for what I love some real estate! Six Hundred Twenty-Seven (627) homes and townhomes sold here in 20854 this past year for an average sales price of $1,042,000 and with an average of forty-six (46) days on the market.
The highest of all those sales was for a 27,000 sf, circa 2009 stately chateau with nine (9) bedrooms, nine (9) full and four (4) half bath home on a 88,000 sf lot, so two acres, in Bradley Farms that sold for $4.785M.
Now for Condos and Co-Ops. There are not a lot but fourteen (14) units traded this past year for an average sales price of $842K and had an average of forty days on the market.
The highest condo sale for this past year was for a 3,200 sf, three (3) bed, three (3) bath penthouse unit with high ceilings and views here at Park Potomac for $1.8M.
Thank you for joining us today for episode nineteen (19) of Onsite with Matt Cheney. As always like, comment and subscribe.
