Title: The Last Czars Cast on Netflix vs. the Real Romanov Family
In the early 20th century, the Romanov family ruled Russia as the last czars. Their reign was marked by both opulence and tragedy. But what really happened to the family during their downfall?
The Netflix series "The Last Czars" depicts the Romanov family in a dramatic and fictionalized way. But how accurate is it compared to the real story?
While "The Last Czars" may be entertaining to watch, it should be noted that it takes liberties with the true story and characters of the Romanovs. For a more accurate portrayal of their lives and reign, it's important to consult historical documents and accounts.
Prince Alexei
The youngest child of the Czar and Czarina, Alexei, was set to inherit the Imperial throne but had a blood condition called haemophilia which caused him to be frequently ill. In 1918, he and his entire family were murdered. The show successfully cast an actor who resembled Alexei's youthful appearance.
Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich
The Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich, Nicholas II's uncle, is portrayed as a confident and bold individual in both the Netflix series and in actual history.
Despite slight differences in the shape of the nose and eyes, the resemblance is striking.
Grigori Rasputin
Rasputin, the Russian mystic and trusted advisor of Czarina Alexandra due to his ability to alleviate her son Alexei's health issues, had a reputation for his indulgent lifestyle and wielded significant influence in the Russian Imperial court, earning him many enemies.
He was assassinated in December 1916, prior to the fall of the Romanovs, by a group of Russian noblemen who opposed his influence. In the Netflix series "The Last Czars", actor Ben Cartwright portrays Rasputin, who bears a resemblance to the real Rasputin, but the actor's piercing stare and tidier beard cannot match the real Rasputin's appearance.
Grand Duchesses Maria, Tatiana, Anastasia, and Olga
The Czar and Czarina's four daughters lived a protected life until their tragic deaths in 1918. Despite this, false rumors persisted for many years that one of the sisters, particularly Anastasia, had survived. The actresses selected for the role all seem to bear resemblance to the sisters, with one possibly appearing a bit too blonde.
Czarina Alexandra
Actress Susanna Herbert portrayed Czarina Alexandra. She captured the cheekbones and pearls perfectly, however, it appears that the real Alexandra's hair was more naturally curly.
Czar Nicholas II of Russia
The last ruler of Imperial Russia looks pretty close to the series' actor Robert Jack, but Nicholas had a more pronounced mustache.
Nicholas ruled the Russian Empire from November 1894 to his abdication in March 1917. He was executed the following year in July 1918.
Well, that’s all we have for today, would love to hear your opinion on how accurate you think the cast was.
Thanks again!
