(6 Jul 2014) Anti-World Cup activists held a protest on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.
Organisers from the Rio da Paz (Rio for peace) group said the protest in front of the FIFA headquarters at the Copacabana palace hotel was to draw attention to the money spent by Brazil to host the World Cup.
The group planted 12 blindfolded mannequins wearing the Brazil team jersey on the beach with the message that the "people are not blind."
The protest ended with footballs stained with red being buried in in the sand in memory of the people who die for lack of health care.
Since 2013, many demonstrations across the country have targeting FIFA and the Brazilian government for what demonstrators claim to be excessive spending on hosting the tournament and a lack of investment in basic public services like health and education.
