Running Safety Kit: Gear To Keep Runners Safe At Night
Around 120,000 runners get hit by cars each year. We're helping solve that problem by making them highly visible at all times.
About this project
I've been running for many years and have completed a number of marathons during that time. While I'll never set any records or won first place, I do love the process of preparing for a race and accomplishing my goal.
As my family has grown, I've noticed that my training schedule has become increasingly unpredictable.
Sometimes a late night run after the kids are in bed is my only option.
After doing some night running or even a couple of overnight relay races, I realized just how dangerous the experience was compared to my daytime runs.
That's when the idea to create a safety kit was born. Since we had some experience designing and creating LED chest lamps, we thought if we combined a couple different types of lighting along with reflective materials, we could make something truly unique that keeps runners safe on the road.
As I began looking into it, I was stunned to find out that according to Road ID's study, about 122,000 runners are hospitalized each year from being hit by a car!
It's 2017 and we're ready to change that through education and making it easier for runners to get the gear they need when training in low visibility conditions
