I compare an 12 note 13 inch steel tongue drum from Amazon to the New Wave 15 Steel Tongue Drum/Pan and Double sided 12 inch steel tongue drum made by Kosmosky.

I actually do like cheaper steel tongue drums and also think they are good instruments, but some of the hand crafted brands sound so good, and because they are so easy to play, almost just owning one turns you into a musician. Also if budget is not a major concern, a beginner would proper be more motivated to stick with playing a high quality drum, since they do inspire a bit more creativity.
