(1 Jan 2014) Thousands of Dutch revellers on Wednesday braved cold temperatures to take a New Year's Day plunge in the North Sea.
Swimmers packed the beaches in the seaside district of Scheveningen in the Hague for the traditional dip.
Crowds made a mad dash to the chilly waters, with temperatures of just five degrees Celsius (39 degrees Fahrenheit).
"I am feeling really great now but I can't feel my feet, they are completely frozen," said one swimmer.
Klaas Miedema, who was taking part for the first time said the the experience was "just amazing."
"I will do this more often," he added.
The New Year's Day tradition is said to have been started by a local Scheveningen swimming club in the 1960s.
It is now marked across the country.
More than 40-thousand people were expected to take part in similar events across the Netherlands.
