transcript:
i'm gonna play off the theme of the dangers of ideological possession and
i would say that framing leads to a trap of ideological possession
if you're trying to be afraid of ideological possession you're going to create an ideology to counter other ideology
i would try to encourage some curiosity of what is the unmet need for someone that clings to an ideology and Peterson would frame it as lack of meaning or purpose
i would frame it that it's lack of initiatory mindset in our current society
mental health has labeled
there's the current fad of saying every all mental illness is trauma
gabor mate has a whole series trying to say everybody's traumatized and there's mental illness everywhere and just use trauma therapies
you could flip it and say traumas are initiations that are just the start of the initiation
and someone who has ideological possession had a trauma and they're trying to make sense of their trauma so they grasp onto an ideology or a thought pattern or a structure because they have too much chaos that flooded their system
a little crack in their worldview and they couldn't make sense of it
so they grasp for anything that gives them a structure
but that's not seeing the trauma or the chaos as a potential initiation to a rebirth
but since our society is focused on recovery recovering back to your old self living like a zombie
we have a bunch of mental health experts that turn you into a zombie of your old self or
flip you into a zombie of some ideology
if there is this container of character
so slowly you develop a lifestyle of being honest and truthful, virtue, all the different traditional classical patterns of a character
then you can embody you can hold more of your soul, you can hold more spiritual consciousness in your life and in your being
it's an investment for the future so you develop character under a low stress
so that when your world falls apart you have your long-term history of character and trusted relationships
that's part of having character
you have a wide social base that's also part of your trust and collective self you're developing
character not just for you it's the collective self and then that gives you heartiness to go forward and not fall into ideological possession
but if you want a shortcut you can just say ideological possession is bad and there's a risk you might fall into another ideology trying to avoid ideological possession
