87 002 Royal Sovereign was hauling Inter City's "Electric Scot" charter from London to Glasgow, scheduled to call briefly at Carlisle in each direction for a crew change. With six hours between the outward and return visits, my plan was to film each and in between to ride the Cumbrian Coast line to St Bees to film the interesting railway activity there.
Unfortunately the train was delayed by some 52 minutes whilst en-route northward, knocking my plan on the head. I found myself facing a five-hour wait on a cold windy station with not a lot happening.
