Repost to fix the ice axe -- which appears to be in the adjacent display case -- not the picture frame in the 1924 case.
Mark Synnott, author of The Third Pole, found an early British Ice Axe in a museum in China. Ever the humble author, he did not take credit for this important find and left it as an unexplored reference in his recent post-script to the book.
