Blanket stitch:
This is traditionally an embroidery stitch, but can also be used in garment construction by decoratively covering the edges of a garment. Example bing pockets, cuffs or hems. You can also use the same movement of stitches to create a bar tack by working the stitch over a line of threads.
How to create a blanket stitch:
Working from left to right, with the point of the needle and the edge os the work toward you. You can decide to fold the edge or leave it raw. If you are working with a fabric that frays I suggest folding the fabric over twice. Secure thread with a back stitch or a knot. Bring thread out below the edge of fabric. For the next and stitches to follow, insert needle through fabric on the right side and bring out at the edge. Keeping thread from previous stitch under needle point, draw the needle and thread through, forming stitch over edge. Stitch size and spacing can be the same or varied.
