During the Second World War, there were many executions which were carried out upon prisoners of war and people who should have been given better treatment. During fighting over Germany, there was a B-17 Flying Fortress which was shot out of the sky, and from this an American Airmen Sgt Willard M Holden parachuted out. But when he hit the floor, he was captured by an ardent Nazi Justus Gerstenberg who was a member of the police.
Gerstenberg then executed Holden by shooting him, and then he ordered his hasty burial. But at the end of the Second World War, Justus Gerstenberg was arrested and he was then sentenced to death. But it would be notorious US executioner, John C Woods who executed Gerstenberg on the gallows in Landsberg Prison. But his execution did not go well, and it was botched.
