The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's SWAT Team responded to a situation involving a barricaded subject in west Charlotte Tuesday afternoon. After a six-hour standoff with officers, it ended with the suspect being taken to an area hospital to be treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police said the suspect was wanted for charges connected to a violent sexual assault case.
Detectives tried contacting the suspect around 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to CMPD. When detectives arrived at the suspect's home along Columbus Circle, just off West Morehead Street, the suspect barricaded himself inside. Eventually, officers requested the SWAT Team's assistance.
