Tuesday night in the Pelourinho, Salvador de Bahia, Brazil is "drum night"! Local drum schools (many of these encourage young people to join so keeping them off the streets!) wander the narrow cobbled streets showing off their skills, and there is always an audience to appreciate their efforts. I rarely pass through Salvador on a Tuesday so was pleased to be there this time on my way back from Peru.
The best known school is Olodum (which incidentally is located across the road from my nephew's restaurant, Bar Zulu!) and they have featured on songs by Michael Jackson and Paul Simon (and others), as well as performing at the Notting Hill Carnival in London!
