One of the trickiest questions to ask is what should your foster child call you. While it is always nice to be called dad, some kids are not ready for that, and some never become comfortable with names like Dad. And you cannot force it. I would suggest trying to be comfortable with having your child call you by your first name, or come up with names that you both are comfortable using. We used “Old Man” and “My Dude” which worked out fine for us.

Now when your child does call you Dad for the first time, it is absolutely amazing. Cherish that moment, as it’s one that you will remember for a long time.
