Canon rebadged the EOS Rebel G as the EOS Rebel GII changing only the color and name. The GII, released as a downmarket camera, served to bring people from the point-and-shoot (PNS) market into the single-lens reflect (SLR) camera market. SLR cameras provide greater creative control and usability than PNS cameras, and they also sell lenses, which is great for camera companies.
The GII has all the features of a higher-end camera, a great meter, and is very light. But the build quality suffers from an abundance of plastic (including the mount) and a penta-mirror system instead of a pentaprism system. Though lighter, this reduces the light reading the viewfinder.
