NetFlow has long been the gold standard to monitor network traffic flows. New enhancements including the IPFIX standard have really upped the game in network monitor. The next phase in this transformation is Flexible Net Flow allowing network admins to monitor traffic down to layer 2 and up to layer 7, including all packet flags.
