Defining the distinction between destructive and non-destructive editing, and talking about when we might want to prefer one over the other when working with audio.
In non-destructive editing, the original material (in this case, the audio files) are not changed in the course of our editing. Generally speaking, this is the kind of editing we're doing when we're working in our our digital audio workstation (DAW) software. Sometimes, though, it's better to do "destructive editing" in a waveform editor such as Audacity or Adobe Audition, when we want to do detailed edits of single audio files.
