Hi
In this video, I'll perform a repair on an HP Photosmart 5520 sent to me by one of my subscribers!
I've seen so many printers of this model over the years that make this really bad grinding noise, often followed by a "Carriage Jam" error. The part that makes this sound is the Service Station, that part has a row of teeth on the left side, on which a gear slides onto and drags the whole unit forward and back to clean the printhead. Often some of those teeth get sheared, due to the fact that are too thin, and also that the printer feels the amount of torque to the motor to know when the unit has reached the front and back side of the printer with no sensors whatsoever.
The "easy" and "correct" way of fixing it would be to replace the whole unit, but as HP is such a bad company when it comes to giving access to spare parts, that spare part is nowhere to be found, so in this video I'll show you how to fix the existing broken part and repair your printer.
To disassemble the printer and complete the repair you'll need a Torx T10 screwdriver.
I hope this will be helpful, and hopefully less printers will end up in landfills.
100% not requested and totally up to you, but if I've made you save some money fixing your own printer, or you'd like to support my channel in general you could consider donating any amount you want here: www.paypal.me/paolomarcelli Thank you so much in any case.
