The hardest part about tomato pruning is seeing what's a main stem and what's a "sucker". The second hardest part is when a crow or squirrel prunes your tomato for you and you have to replant or coax out a new main stem - but that's for a later video!
Watch this video to learn more about what to keep and what to prune if you're trying to maintain just one or just a few main stems. A single stem may offer the most trellising options, the best protection against disease, and allow you to plant more densely. A single stem pruning system may also get you earlier harvests, which is a big deal if you have a shorter growing season. Multiple stems can be useful when you have a little more space for each plant and when you'd like each plant to maybe be a bit more productive, and you can wait a little longer for the tomatoes to appear.
I'll be comparing my different trellises and pruning tactics throughout the season to see how they do!
