BROCKTON — Elismary Lozada says she looked away for just a moment early Saturday morning, and when she looked back, her longtime boyfriend was lying in the street, dying of stab wounds.
Jose L. Gongon, 26, of Fall River, was stabbed to death on Montello Street just before 2 a.m. Saturday, authorities and family members said.
Gongon lived with Lozada, his girlfriend of seven years, and their two young children, ages 1 and 5.
He was a good father, and a good man, and he got killed for no reason, a teary Lozada said at an East Ashland Street home Saturday night, where friends and family had gathered.
Lozada said the stabbing occurred in the middle of the street outside Cardoso Cafe, a bar she and Gongon had been visiting that night.
I looked away to see my friend ... and when I looked back to where (Gongon) was, he was just lying on the (street), she said.
Lozada said there was an argument between Gongon and another man just before the stabbing, but she said she didnt get a good look at the man.
Gongon was found with what appeared to be stab wounds to his face, neck, chest and abdomen, said Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney Bridget Norton Middleton.
Gongon was pronounced dead at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, she said.
After an investigation, police arrested Eugenio Lopes, 24, of Brockton, and charged him with murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, she said.
Lopes will be arraigned on the charges Monday in Brockton District Court, she said.
Lozada said shell be there.
I want to see who killed him, she said. I want to see his face.
