The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) unveiled new mask guidance for Americans who were fully vaccinated, giving examples of activities outdoors and indoors that people could resume safely including attending small outdoor gatherings without the need to wear a mask.
According to the CDC, people can walk, run, bike or hike outdoors alone or with members of their household without a mask; attend small outdoor gatherings with fully vaccinated friends and family or with a mixture of those fully vaccinated and unvaccinated; and can dine at outdoor restaurants with friends from multiple households. Indoor activities, however, like visiting a hair salon or dining inside is recommended to be done masked regardless of vaccination status.
There was other guidance also provided in terms of masking that would allow people to return to enjoying crowded, outdoor events like a live performance, parade or sporting event but it is recommended they remain masked whether vaccinated or not. Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said this was in part due to the difficulty people may face at keeping good distance from others including those not vaccinated.
