Generative lighting control system developed by Lighting Design Collective (www.ldcol.com) for Philips.
The canvas displays beautiful swirling lights in constant motion. The effect is calming, natural and fascinating. The system uses artificial intelligence drawn from biomimicry creating natural movement of light.
Data feed monitors wind speed and direction in the locality and affects the light movement in real time. The luminous fabrics express the changes in wind speed and direction. When the wind blows the lights ripple and swirl, when there is calm, the lights drift slowly like clouds. The space becomes an ambient communicator. The wall creates mesmerizing ever-changing light display and also connects the living architectural surface conceptually to its immediate surroundings.
At will it can also resonate further a field. For example the system can be set to follow New York, Hong Kong, Fiji or any location important to the client, or all of those at different times of the day. The nature is expressed in real-time through digital light art displayed by the panels. Algorithmic real-time visual generation combined with external parameters means this digital art canvas never repeats.
Whilst the patterns are always recognizable they are never the same.
SET UP
Standard internet connection is required to monitor the wind conditions, no external sensors are required. To make each piece unique, the system requires visual adjustments and customisation of the parametric settings for each project. This can be done on-site by the specialists or remotely through an internet connection.
Adjustments include:
◦Adjust tonal and colour combinations to suit the interior design, mood, brand colours etc
◦Adjust the direction of light movement to suit the panel positioning and desired view points
◦Adjust the scale of the light effect
◦Adjust the sharpness of light from clear points to soft formations ◦Adjust the area where light effects appear. This allows for example to stop the light particles before they reach the edges of panels and this way never express the “screen” shape of the panels.
◦Set time-schedule for different parameters. For example: At sunset different colour or pattern settings appear. Seasons are expressed differently. Local or international calendar events such as Christmas, New Year, Novruz, Eid, etc. Different inputs are selected at different times
